Legionella Risk Assessment
HSC L8
The requirements of HSC L8 were enacted to ensure that measures are taken to prevent an outbreak of Legionellosis, which might otherwise be generated in water services and cooling towers within buildings.
By monitoring the condition of the various systems, we impose a regime of treatment, testing and recording of results thereby adhering to the current legislation.
This treatment includes the annual chlorination of storage cisterns and down services as demanded under the regulations. In addition the cleaning and disinfection of ductwork systems is also included within the scope of our activities.
Legionella water hygiene risk assessments carried out in accordance with the Health Safety Executive (HSE) Approved Code of Practice and Guidance L8.
Employers and properties under employers control have a responsibility under the approved code of practice L8 which provides practical guidance on the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) for the management and control of risks associated from Legionellosis.
In a Legionnella risk assessment the following will be undertaken:-
- Condition report on cold water storage tanks potable water systems, calorifiers and hot water cylinders
- Schematic diagrams of potable water systems showing all inlets and outlets, identifying any dead legs
- Schedule of water outlets and temperature profiles
- Legionella risk assessment carried out in accordance with Approved Code of Practice and Guidance L8
- Recommendations in respect of cold water tanks compliance with Bylaw 30.
Water samples and analysis of the cold water storage tanks are recommended.
If required quotations can be provided to carry out all remedial works.
Whilst failure to comply with (ACOP) is not an offence, non-compliance may be used in evidence by a court in criminal proceedings to demonstrate that a person has contravened the legal requirements to which the provisions relate.
